When I was a kid, June 1st was one of my favorite days because we didn’t have school. I mean, we did go to school, but it was to participate in all the awesome fun activities rather than to study.

What is so special about June 1st?

June 1st is Children’s Day in China.

Multiple Names

ε„Ώη«₯θŠ‚ (Γ©r tΓ³ng jiΓ©) is one of my favorite translations because it is the shortest.

The slightly longer version is ε…δΈ€ε„Ώη«₯θŠ‚ (liΓΉ yΔ« Γ©r tΓ³ng jiΓ©).

ε… (liΓΉ) six
δΈ€ (yΔ«) one

ε…δΈ€ (liΓΉ yΔ«) six, one
ε…δΈ€ is β€œ6, 1” literally, but here it stands for June 1st.

If this is not long enough for you, you are more than welcome to go for ε…δΈ€ε›½ι™…ε„Ώη«₯θŠ‚ (liΓΉ yΔ« guΓ³ jΓ¬ Γ©r tΓ³ng jiΓ© kuΓ i lΓ¨).

How to say Happy Children's Day

To wish a child Happy Children’s Day, you add 快乐 (kuΓ i lΓ¨) at the end of the festival name.

快乐 (kuài lè) happy

You can say:
ε„Ώη«₯θŠ‚εΏ«δΉ
ér tóng jié kuài lè
Happy Children's Day

ε…δΈ€ε„Ώη«₯θŠ‚εΏ«δΉ
liù yī ér tóng jié kuài lè
Happy June 1st Children's Day

ε…δΈ€ε›½ι™…ε„Ώη«₯θŠ‚εΏ«δΉ

If you know me, I prefer the shortest one ha.

What did we do on June 1st?

When I was a kid, we would go to school on June 1st. Each class would be responsible for setting up an event or activity, like dance performance, singing, throwing darts blindfolded, raffles, and all kinds of fun activities that children would enjoy participating in.

Each classroom would rotate the students to manage the activity so that all students could check out and participate in other events.

What if you are no longer a child?

Well, we can always celebrate our “inner child” πŸ˜‚ Get some hugs (self patting works too), toys, or books.

What about you?

Do you have Children’s Day? If you do, what do you do that day? I would love to know! Send me a DM on Instagram or let us know in the comment section below. I am ChineseMandarinCafe on Instagram.
